Black Men’s Health Week kicks off Saturday, Aug. 7, with a series of health- and wellness-focused events, including free screenings for both men and women.

Sponsored by the Columbus-based African American Male Wellness Agency, the week of activities Aug. 7-14 offers important health screenings such as blood-pressure checks and mammograms, and also vaccinations to prevent COVID-19.

Other activities include a job and resource fair, service day, a hip hop fitness class, 5K walk and run, and more. Since 2004, the African American Male Wellness Agency has worked to reduce disparities in premature death and chronic disease among African American males, providing more than 4,000 free health screenings annually and hosting dozens of innovative health-education programs in more than 16 U.S. cities. The organization also supports initiatives on fatherhood, financial wellness, mental health, mentorship and research.
