To participate in the Special Olympics program of the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities you need to meet a few requirements.
- Be a minimum of eight years of age; there is no upper age limit.
- You must have gone through intake and be eligible for services from the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Call the office if you are uncertain about meeting this requirement. You will need to complete and submit Athlete Information Release Forms. These forms are required to train and compete in Special Olympics. It contains medical information and release, picture release, emergency contacts and more. It must be dated and signed by a physician. No attached physicals are accepted. It must also be signed by the athlete’s parent or guardian. If the athlete is his/her own guardian, they will sign and date the forms. It is very important that the forms be filled out completely and correctly. This is how we get emergency and medical information, your address, your parent’s address, school/work location and more. Once we have these forms, you are registered for a period of three years from the date of the physician’s signature.
